Calm, practical, and on your side
Calm, practical, and on your side
Founder of The Dedicated Downsizer.
I began my career as an Occupational Therapist, helping people return home safely after illness, adapt their houses to suit changing needs, or move into properties that worked better for them. For the past 12 years, I’ve supported older adults in their own homes, often through big transitions such as moving into care, relocating to be closer to family, or downsizing to something more manageable.
I also spent time working for a local estate agent in Dorking, which gave me an insider’s view of the property market and how to make a move as smooth as possible. Bringing these perspectives together, I created The Dedicated Downsizer, a service shaped by professional training, hands-on experience, and a deep understanding of both people and property.
Downsizing advice often talks about money, releasing equity or cutting bills. But in reality, the hardest part is the overwhelm: emotional and physical.
Many people put it off because:
They don’t know where to start with a lifetime of belongings.
The physical effort feels too much.
Everything still feels manageable.
Letting go of possessions brings guilt.
They worry about making the wrong decision.
They’re grieving a partner, or adjusting after one has gone into care.
That’s why I do this work: to make downsizing feel possible, with kindness and clarity.
Busy couple preparing to move closer to family
“We’d been putting off downsizing for years because it just felt too big to tackle. Jennie came in with a plan, a smile, and an endless supply of patience. She broke the process into manageable steps, and suddenly everything started to feel possible. We honestly wish we’d reached out sooner.”

I understand both the practical and emotional side. 10 years as an Occupational Therapist, plus 12 years supporting older adults, means I know how hard it can feel to let go and how to make it easier.
Local knowledge. I’ve lived in Surrey most of my life and worked for a Dorking estate agent, so I know the property market and retirement options nearby.
Flexible support. Some clients just want a clear plan. Others share the work with me. Many ask me to take on everything, right through to unpacking and setting up the new home.
Calm family support. Families often describe me as “like having another daughter”, someone who cares deeply, but brings objectivity when emotions run high.
Attention to detail. From belongings to move day to change-of-address admin, nothing is overlooked. Some clients even go away during the move, knowing I’ll have their new home unpacked and ready when they return.
Downsizing is never just about property. It’s about people, memories, and the courage to move forward.
My role is to be beside you, easing the strain, guiding decisions, and helping you and your family feel confident at every step. Whether you’re planning ahead or facing a more urgent move, I’ll make sure the process feels manageable and that your new chapter begins with calm, competence, and compassion.
We’d love to hear from you. Whether you’re ready to start downsizing or
just exploring your options, let’s connect.
